Leading Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa to speak at interior architecture symposium SISU in Tallinn

As one of the keynote speakers, Juhani Pallasmaa will take the stage at this year’s international interior architecture symposium SISU “The Impact of Space” in Tallinn. Juhani Pallasmaa is one of Finland’s leading architects and an internationally recognised writer on architecture, educator and former jury member of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. One of his biggest and most well-known works is the Kamppi center in Helsinki. SISU Symposium, organised by the Estonian Association of Interior Architects takes place from 27th to 30th May in Tallinn, Estonia.

Pallasmaa has published nearly 50 books and 350 essays, and his writings have been translated into 30 languages. He has never regarded architecture as his profession – it has been a window through which he looks at the world, it has been a way of getting to know the world, himself, and other people. In his lecture Pallasmaa deals with how architecture not only guides our behaviour, but how it actually alters our brain.

In addition to Pallasmaa, several other foreign speakers will take the stage in the symposium – MerkX+Girod (Amsterdam), Karan Grover (India), Suzie Attiwill (RMIT, Melbourne), Jo Van Den Berghe (LUCA, Sint-Lucas, Brussels), Graeme Brooker (Middlesex University, London), Kees Spanjers (Amsterdam), Per Reinholtz (ECIA, Växjö), Monika Löve (Turin). From Estonia architect Aet Ader and interior architect Liisa Põime will be speaking.

The topic of this year’s international interior architecture symposium SISU is “The Impact of Space” and it will take place from 27th to 30th May at Von Krahl Theatre in Tallinn, Estonia. The focus of this year’s symposium is on the impact space has on people and vice versa: SISU will examine how space affects people and how people affect space, or in other words – what kind of human intervention in the space around us tends to inspire us.

Estonian Association of Interior Architects connects interior architecture professionals and helps them create mentally and physically valuable habitat, contributes to the development of the field and looks after the legacy of the field. It’s the second time for the association to organise SISU symposium.
